Should Youths Get Baptized?

found this little gem of an article in the june 15, 2011 wt.... should youths get baptized?“i am so happy that my daughter is now a servant of jehovah, and i know that she is happy too,” said carlos, a christian father in the philippines.

a father from greece wrote: “my wife and i are delighted that our three children were baptized as jehovah’s witnesses during their adolescence.

they are making spiritual progress and are happy about serving jehovah.”christian parents have reason to be overjoyed when their children get baptized, but sometimes the joy is accompanied by uneasiness.

The WTBTS has stated countless times baptism is the most important decision/action in a person's life. Therefore, a minor, still not fully developed brain and personality must not enter into this lifetime sealed contract.

True Christians shall obey the Biblical mandate and follow Jesus' example in this and all other matters.

However, the WTBTS will not follow our Christian leader in this regard because they are interested in the numbers, as well as the psychological hold baptism puts on people.

Soooo saddened when I see or hear of anyone getting baptized while younger than 18.

What made you stay "in" even when you knew it wasn't the "truth"?

so i've been thinking a lot about why i stayed a jw for so long even though i had always had doubts about the doctrines.

i was born into the religion, left and came back as an adult for another decade.

some of the things that come to mind (besides the threat of shunning-and this isn't to minimize that very real threat) was:.

Recently, I have been looking into joining some type of Senior sports club of some sort; bicycle group maybe.

The book club thing was a bit boring. Snoring session!

Those numbers mean nothing.

In the Spanish congs here, I know of about 5 nutty women who partake. At least 3 of these ladies are flat out crazy, on meds for depression, bipolar, C-R-A-Z-Y!!!

Who really knows what the batshit crazy stuff found in Revelations really means.

And another thing...

I have tried to mingle and find friendships outside of the JW sphere, but it's been totally uncomfortable and even disastrous at times.

At parties and other home gatherings there's always the games/entertainment with sexual tones, fowl language galore, blatant gossip and being overtly offensive with each other, always the drunks and the ones that cannot have a good time without smoking weed or some other drug of choice.

Outside the JWs' demeanor, even if it's fake, I just cannot deal.

On the other side, this last weekend, as just about almost every single Saturday in the Spanish side, we had a big wedding anniversary party. There we all had such great fun: Games, eating, dancing, checking out people I hadn't seen in a while; and, in moderation even a little drinking. Everyone looked so nice, festive without being scantily clad. It was just all around my type of fun environment.

This sentiment I cannot find, although I have tried. A JW is what I am, even in disagreement of some stuff.

It is complicated.

Some prayers really annoy me

i realize that prayer is a really personal thing, but representing a group in prayer has become so full of cliche's that i just want to vomit sometimes.

co week almost every prayer has the phrase "special week of activity" in it.. then there's "please look after the sick and afflicted.".

not so much anymore, "please bless this food and the hands that prepared it.".

No longer close eyes during prayer, unless I need a quick snooze.

Although, in the Spanish side, this is a bit dangerous because some brothers' prayers are soooo damn long that I fear really falling asleep and begin to snore.

Another nice benefit of being awakened, prayer means nothing. Cannot even remember the last time I honestly prayed. Only pretend when in presence of the JW deceived.

Prayer is nothing more than wishful thinking or self-insight, brief meditation type of behavior.

We really don't know who God is. The evidence in every day life points to an egomaniac, nasty entity.

Based on what I have experienced thus far, do not feel very motivated to respect much less worship.

Same old same old...

Copycat rhetoric from early 70s, early-to-mid 80s, mid-to-late 90s, 2007-2011, and now they'very jumped on the doomsday horse yet again.

Remember when the UN declared a year of peace in the mid 80s?! Oh my god, what an crazy time inside the JW world!!!

Same sentiment now, specifically all those that have come in within the last 5 years or so.

It's cyclical.
